International Quilt Show in Houston, Texas
November 1 - 4, 2007
Going to the International Quilt Show in Houston met my expectations and so much more. I had the honor to hang out and meet new people and my wonderful hostess - Anjea.
While there was a brief bump in the road as we prepared to drive down from Austin to Houston (someone decided to slam into the side of one of the cars I was in), we were able to focus on fun things and being quilty.
The vendors alone is worth visiting for. Imagine a Shop Hop of 100's of stores all under one roof...WOW. It was the perfect place to test drive all the machines if you are in the market for a new one. I was disappointed in the lack of "new" quilt gadgets, but getting a few batik fat quarters for $2 each made me happy.
I could have spent another 24 hours wondering and looking at the quilt exhibit. I spend only a day doing it and didn't see about a third of the quilts - though I did take a lot of pictures. Next year (and yes, I am planning on going back), I think I'll plan the morning hours for shopping and the afternoons for staring at quilts. They left me breathless and in total awe.
I don't have any one favorite quilt or vendor, but my favorite moment was meeting Mark Lipinski and seeing him again the next day for a retake photo.
I truly met some wonderful people and have many silly memories to keep me humored until next year.
